As a licensed therapist with specialized training in clinical aromatherapy, I can offer integrative approaches for individuals who are interested in exploring additional ways to support their mental-well being. While my foundation is evidence-based therapies, I recognize that integrative approaches, including complementary and alternative tools, can enhance self-care and the therapeutic process (when used appropriately).
How Aromatherapy Fits Into Therapy
Aromatherapy is just one of the tools that clients can add to their self-care toolkit. Essential oils have been used for centuries in various traditions, and today they’re being researched for potential benefits to support with relaxation, grounding, and emotional balance.
In therapy sessions, I use aromatherapy as a complementary approach for those who are interested. This might include:
- Exploring personal associations with aroma and memory
- Incorporating mindful engagement with aromas during grounding exercises
- Supporting self-care routines with sensory based practices
Individualized Approach
Because psychotherapy sessions are individualized, and everyone’s needs and preferences are different, aromatherapy is never required in therapy. It is a complementary and integrative approach, meaning it is not a substitute for medical treatment, nor is it prescribed as a medication. Instead, I offer education and guidance for those who wish to integrate it into their self-care in a way that aligns with their personal comfort and therapeutic goals.

Training and Ethical Use
I have been committed to the safe and responsible integration of aromatherapy within mental health care for over the past 10 years. My approach prioritizes:
- Safety considerations, including potential interactions with medications and medical conditions
- Ethical use within the scope of mental health care
- Client choice and informed decision-making
Best Practices
To ensure best practices, I have completed over 450 hours of clinical aromatherapy training at an Aromatherapy Certification Program. I have also participated in additional professional development courses, conferences, and workshops, taught by the industry’s top experts, totaling over 1,000 hours. Within the past 10 years I’ve also been actively involved in professional aromatherapy organizations, including serving on the board of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists. To learn more about my background, visit my About page.
I do not diagnose, prescribe, or treat medical or mental health conditions with aromatherapy (including essential oils). My role is to provide education and guidance on how complementary tools may support an individual’s overall well-being, emphasizing their responsible and safe use.
